Title: Safety Coordinator
Reports To: Plant Manager
Role Summary
Provide leadership, mentoring, and hands-on support to drive employee health and safety across a food manufacturing plant. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policies. Identify operational risks, communicate findings, and develop practical strategies to mitigate those risks.
Key Responsibilities
• Learn plant operations (food ingredient production, powder processing, packaging/shipping) to proactively identify and reduce safety risks.
• Lead, sustain, and continuously improve the site’s ISO 45001 safety management system.
• Partner with management to embed safety processes, documentation, and accountability.
• Champion a safety-first culture through floor observations, hazard recognition, and targeted initiatives.
• Plan and conduct safety audits per OSHA and internal SMS; drive timely closure of findings.
• Develop and deliver effective safety training (classroom and hands-on); measure and improve outcomes.
• Lead the safety committee; set agendas, track goals, and report progress.
• Ensure availability, readiness, and correct use of safety equipment and PPE.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation to support compliance and improvement.
• Model safe work practices and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Perform additional duties as needed to support the site EHS program.
 
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
• Experience: 4–6 years in industrial safety; ISO 45001 training/certification required. Food processing experience preferred (not required).
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA, ISO 45001, and ANSI. Ability to read/interpret and sketch basic drawings/blueprints.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving, and decision making. Ability to influence without authority and drive results. Strong organization, prioritization, and follow-through. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Physical & Work Environment
• Ability to walk, stand, reach, and climb stairs as needed.
• Exposure to heat, humidity, cold, and typical production conditions (including process aromatics).
• May work at heights or in elevated/precarious areas when required.
• Lead and improve ISO 45001 across the site
• Drive OSHA compliance, audits, and corrective actions
• Train teams, lead the safety committee, and strengthen safety culture
• Maintain accurate safety documentation and GMP standards
You Bring:
• 4–10 yrs industrial safety experience
• ISO 45001 training/certification
• Strong communication, problem solving, and follow-through
