CooperDouglas is partnering with a publicly traded, high-growth company in the health sector that is seeking a strategic technical accounting and reporting leader to scale an evolving organization. The environment suits an experienced SEC reporting professional ready to lead, build team infrastructure, and serve as a trusted business partner to executive leadership.

Position Overview

The Senior Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting will oversee all aspects of external financial reporting and drive the company’s technical accounting agenda. Reporting directly to the SVP of Accounting, this individual will manage SEC filings, evaluate new accounting standards, advise on complex transactions, and ensure alignment with the company’s long-term growth strategy and compliance framework. The ideal candidate blends hands-on technical depth with business acumen, thrives in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, and enjoys mentoring a growing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all SEC reporting deliverables, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and proxy statements, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and consistency with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements.
  • Develop and maintain robust disclosure controls and documentation frameworks to support an evolving reporting environment.
  • Partner closely with Legal, FP&A, Investor Relations, and Operations to translate complex financial results into clear, investor-focused narratives.
  • Serve as the company’s technical accounting resource, interpret, and document the impact of new accounting standards, acquisitions, and equity transactions.
  • Build and mentor a small, high-performing SEC reporting team; establish scalable processes and career development paths.
  • Oversee accounting and disclosures for individual brand financial statements included in franchise reporting and international filings.
  • Support external auditor relationships and lead audit-related requests with a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls in compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Advise management on accounting implications of key business decisions including M&A, equity structure, and revenue recognition.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging tools such as Workiva, Donnelly’s, or Active Disclosure systems to streamline reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; active CPA required.
  • 9+ years of progressive accounting experience including Big 4 public accounting and public company exposure.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP, SEC, and SOX compliance, including experience with ASC 606, ASC 718, and ASC 842.
  • Proven ability to lead technical accounting policy formulation and SEC reporting end-to-end.
  • Sound experience with equity accounting and consolidation of multi-brand, multi-entity structures.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and project management skills, with calm execution under tight deadlines.
  • High integrity, discretion, and leadership presence appropriate for a public company executive.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $230,000-270,000 depending on experience
