The foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations on a jobsite to ensure the completion of projects on budget, on time, in a safe and efficient manner.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

·        Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery, personnel, and input from the supervisor.

·        Manage employee time, materials, and supplies on jobsite to meet budget objectives.

·        Verify all supplies on invoices are received on the job site and notify the superintendent of any changes in materials to complete the job.

·        Delegate individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors.

·        Train, manage, and mentor employees and contractors.

·        Request adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices, and safety needs from Superintendent and Project Manager. 

·        Emphasize safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment while providing training on safety gear and procedures.

·        Maintain use of PPE on jobsites.

·        Work with superintendent and project manager to develop schedule and quality standards.

·        Work with the superintendent and project manager to ensure project is on budget.

·        Resolve conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably.

·        Regularly report the project status to the superintendent, project manager, site engineers and all other necessary parties.

·        Regularly inspects work on the assigned job site to verify project is on track and quality of work is to standard.

·        Make recommendations for necessary job, personnel and/or equipment modifications.

·        Ensures specifications and regulations outlined in architectural and engineering plans are followed.

·        Addresses any safety violations and/or policy or best practice violations.

·        Ensure all equipment is well maintained, greased, cleaned, and inspected daily.

·        Responsible for reporting mechanical issues to Shop & Fleet Manager.

·        Be put on any jobsite with any equipment and labor and perform project duties and/or be able to figure it out.

·        Good understanding of Trimble GPS technology and how to use it on a job site. 

·        Accurately read construction plans.

·        Complete notes and pictures for each work shift.  

·        Snow removal in winter including shoveling snow.

 

Physical Demands

The Foreman is regularly required to:

·        Walk, climb stairs, sit, and stand.

·        Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand to operate and repair heavy equipment.

·        Talk and hear at normal levels.

·        See with close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and have the ability to adjust focus.

·        Reach with hands and arms.

·        Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment and perform maintenance on equipment.

·        Lift and/ or move up to 50lbs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

·        Be capable of successfully and efficiently operating any size excavator, dozer, loader, skid steer, compactor, rock truck and road grader.

·        OSHA 10 HR Certification

·        OSHA Competent Person Training

·        Know how to successfully complete various types of excavation jobs timely including but not limited to:

o       Grading a level pad within .1”

o       Backfilling foundations in proper lifts

o       Safely excavating trenches

o       Install water lines and connect to water mains

o       Install sewer lines and connect to sewer mains

o       Install septic tanks and drain fields

o       Build driveways and install road mix

o       Final Grade

o       Build retaining walls

·        Thorough understanding of maintenance and basic repairs associated with heavy equipment.

·        Knowledge of local and federal quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites

·        Superior skill operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently. 

·        Must be able to work in all types of weather, including extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures.  

·        Must have or be able to obtain a septic installer’s license.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of experience leading excavation jobs and/or being a foreman.
  • 5+ years of experience in excavating foundations, septic systems, utilities and building roads.
  • 5+ years of experience working with heavy equipment.
  • Experience and/or willingness to learn about Trimble grade assist technology.
  • Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards.

·        CDL-A not required but will be beneficial
