POSITION DESCRIPTION 

RL Siteworx is seeking a results-focused, driven, and experienced Director of Field Operations to lead, manage, and hold accountable the entire Field Operations department. This role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The duties of this role require an intimate knowledge of project planning and execution; a thorough understanding of executing earthwork, underground utilities, and concrete construction work; a personality that enjoys details; has an analytical outlook to material, equipment, cost tracking, and subcontractors, and a big-picture view necessary to create and implement process.

PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT 

As part of our hiring process, we ask candidates to set aside 5-10 uninterrupted minutes to complete a Predictive Index® Behavioral Assessment. LOCATION 

The role is based at RL’s office in Pasadena, Texas. Travel around the greater Houston area to multiple project sites will be required.

OBJECTIVES 

  • Operations 

  • Accountable for all actions of the Field Operations department. This includes, but is not limited to: safety, labor hours, equipment, manpower, maintenance, fleet vehicles, tools, processes, software, systems, feedback loop, communication, personnel management, training, leadership, department documentation, etc. 

  • Responsible for maintaining an intimate and complete understanding of all processes, systems, activities, goals, etc. for everything within the Field Operations department.  

  • Accountable for the continuous improvement of all departmental systems, processes, procedures, efforts, etc. and the documentation thereof. 

  • Accountable for all field operations department deliverables.  

  • Accountable for the financial success of all projects.  

  • Responsible for making positive and accurate decisions in RL’s best interests under immense pressure and time constraints 

  • Accountable for project scheduling, production documentation, maintaining production rates, material tracking, as-builts, sign-off sheets, daily reports, inspections, testing, etc.  

  • Responsible for participating in project handoffs and project planning session to ensure the best possible outcomes for each project 

  • Responsible for the creation, management, and success of the field operations departmental operating budget.  

  • Leadership 

  • Responsible and accountable for the leadership, management, and morale of all team members in the Field Operations department. 

  • Responsible for participation in RL’s Leadership Team. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: weekly/quarterly/annual meetings, company and department L+M=A, active guidance and input regarding your department, all EOS related activities, etc.  

  • Accountable for the department’s 1:1 meetings, annual reviews, development plans, incentives, etc.  

  • Responsible for sourcing, evaluating, hiring, and managing all Field Operations department roles. 

  • Responsible for the knowledge and enforcement of all company standards, SOPs, ethos, etc. 

  • Responsible to live out RL’s Core Values in both professional and personal settings.  

  • Responsible for the positioning of all field operations personnel according to the RL Tiers documents. 

  • Feedback Loop & Data 

  • Accountable for data collection and reporting regarding all concepts related to the Field Operations department. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: costs, production rates, COGS, burn rates, consumption rates, utilization, asset optimization, fleet usage, usable life calcs, etc.  

  • Accountable for all field operations departmental processes providing timely and accurate feedback for the benefit of the feedback loop.  

  • Equipment & Vehicles 

  • Accountable for all activities related to the leasing, rental, purchase, use, maintenance, and inspection of all equipment, vehicles, tools, etc.  

  • Responsible for facilitating the cost benefit analysis of all equipment leasing and/or purchase efforts.  

  • Accountable for the monitoring and reporting of all equipment, vehicle, and maintenance related activities, data, metrics, fuel, repairs, etc 

  • Accountable for the delivery and pickup of RL owned assets to all projects.  

  • Training 

  • Responsible for the creation, implementation, and maintenance of a training regiment to ensure RL’s field operations staff are consistently improving to maintain top-of-industry skills. 

  • Accountable for all training activities within the field operations department.  

  • Responsible for the creation, implementation, and maintenance of the “RL Way” policies and procedures manual.  

  • Accountable for sourcing, training, and maintaining a vast bench strength within the field operations department to ensure we have team members exceeding expectations and rising through RL. 

  • Safety 

  • Accountable for all safety related items on all projects.  

  • Accountable for the oversight and maintenance of existing safety protocol, certifications, quarterly safety meetings, etc.  

  • Accountable for the creation of all needed project specific safety related documentation.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • An undergraduate degree in construction, civil engineering, or similar field of study is required. 

  • Postgraduate work in a construction-related field of study would be preferred. 

 

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Not less than 15 years of similar work experience in the field operations sector of the construction industry.  

  • References should be provided.
