SUMMARY:
Directs and coordinates activities of Maintenance department and under the supervision of the Plant Manager.
Manager is responsible to get maintenance work completed on time, on budget and safely will work closely with persons planning jobs in order to know what future work is to be done.  Directs and coordinates, supervisors and hourly maintenance employees in the equipment repair process and is always looking for simpler, smarter and more effective ways to do the work undertaken by the maintenance crew while keeping Safety, Quality, Service, and Profitability in mind at all times. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the safety of the Maintenance team by making sure the team is implementing safety in the shop and production floor. (Lock out tag out, personal protective equipment, proper lifting techniques, tow motor safety, fall protection, confined space entry, etc.). Properly document this as well.
 
- Train new employees and continuously train existing team members on proper troubleshooting on each piece of equipment.
 
- Generate preventive maintenance on a daily basis to individual maintenance team members. Keep PM database up to date.
 
- Request repair parts as needed to maintain the equipment.
 
- Planning and scheduling PO’s and PMs, to help with the reduction of downtime. Preventative Maintenance.
 
- Ensure handoff of equipment to QA for inspection after equipment is repaired following a breakdown.
 
- Communicate and enforce that all team members follow GMP’s.
 
- Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
 
- Ensure all employees follow the standard operational and working practices required.  
 
- Ensure all Food Safety & Quality procedures are followed; along with enforcement of SQF/GMP policies.
 
- Knowledge of clean up, sanitation, and refrigeration.
 
- Insure all record keeping is accomplished correctly to maintain accurate Maintenance records. 
 
- Work within maintenance department to keep equipment in best mechanical operating condition. 
 
- Counsels supervisors and hourly maintenance and administers disciplinary action as necessary. 
 
- Maintain good morale and positive attitudes and remain calm under stress.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, administering recognition and/or discipline, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Supervisors over Maintenance Supervisors, 6 Maintenance Techs.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience with Mechanical and technical, GMP's, HAACP, sanitation, process improvement, plant safety programs, and quality assurance. Also must have proven ability to lead, make decisions, facilitate change, and manage conflict. Ability to align performance for success and demonstrate strong people skills. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
 
 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university, and/or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.                   
 
- The superintendent must know and understand the technical, engineering and quality requirements of the operating processes and the plant and equipment used in the process. They must be sufficiently technically able that crew members have confidence in the supervisor‘s judgement on the day-to-day technical matters the crew is required to perform. The superintendent ensures the technical details are right and will liaise with Engineering and equipment manufacturers to get information.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees and management. 
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages. 
 
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables and in situations where only limited experience exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Stand on concrete surfaces, and can be exposed to indoor manufacturing environment with exposure to noise from equipment.
 
- Climb stairs
 
- Must have the ability to work in a refrigerated environment of 35 to 45 degrees F.
 
- The job is fast paced and the employee will need to have the ability to deal with stress is essential.
 
Fulltime regular positions that work Monday through Friday to include Saturday, generally work 8 hours per day, with minimal overtime. Travel is not required for this position.
