Position: Senior Commercial Account Manager — Construction / Heavy-Commercial Lines
Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid: mix of remote + occasional office or onsite/client visits)
Type: Full-time / Salaried
We’re seeking an experienced Commercial Account Manager with deep expertise in construction, heavy-commercial, or contractor accounts. This individual will manage a book of large construction clients — from general contractors and subcontractors to heavy-civil and infrastructure firms — guiding them through risk-management, insurance placement, renewals, endorsements, and ongoing service. The Senior Account Manager will be the primary day-to-day contact for clients and serve as a liaison between clients, producers, underwriters, and carriers to deliver comprehensive, compliant, and high-quality insurance solutions.
Oversee and service a portfolio of construction and heavy-commercial clients (general contractors, specialty subcontractors, civil/heavy-construction firms).
Collaborate with producers to develop and implement marketing and renewal strategies tailored to each construction account.
Collect detailed underwriting information from clients: project schedules, payrolls, subcontractor lists, safety programs, jobsite exposures, equipment, and project-specific risk factors.
Analyze risks and advise clients on appropriate insurance coverage: general liability, workers’ compensation, builders risk / course-of-construction, equipment coverage, excess/umbrella, contractual liability, additional-insured certificates, pollution/environmental if needed, etc.
Prepare and deliver insurance proposals: quotes, coverage summaries, job-specific certificates of insurance, binders, endorsements, and other documentation required for bids or ongoing contracts.
Interface with carriers/underwriters: negotiate terms, secure quotes, bind coverage, confirm binder accuracy, and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
Manage renewals, cancellations, audits, endorsements, and timely follow-up on expiring policies.
Issue Certificates of Insurance (including additional-insureds, waivers, contractual requirements) and Auto ID cards or other required documentation for construction projects.
Serve as the primary inside-service contact: respond to client inquiries, handle policy changes, endorsements, claims reporting coordination, and billing/follow-up as needed.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic client and policy files; ensure data integrity within agency systems.
Monitor client accounts continuously for changes in operations, project scope, or exposures; recommend additional or changed coverage when needed (e.g. equipment floaters, umbrella/excess, pollution, surety if applicable).
Collaborate internally across producers, underwriters, risk-management teams, and support staff to deliver seamless service and support agency growth and client retention.
Occasionally visit job-sites or meet clients on location when required (for exposures review, certificates issuance, project start-up reviews, etc.).
5+ years of experience in commercial lines insurance — with substantial exposure to construction / heavy-commercial / contractor accounts. (Many comparable positions in Denver require 3–5 years commercial-lines experience.
In-depth knowledge of construction-related insurance products and exposures (general liability, workers’ comp, builders risk, course-of-construction, equipment, excess/umbrella, contract liability, additional-insureds, etc.).
Strong communication skills — written and verbal — to clearly explain coverage, exposures, underwriting conditions, endorsements, and policy provisions to clients and carriers.
Excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills, able to manage multiple complex accounts, policy renewals, audits, documents, and deadlines simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn agency management systems or carrier portals quickly. (Most commercial-lines account manager roles in CO require comfort with standard agency systems and rating/quoting tools. J
Valid Colorado Property & Casualty insurance license (or ability/willingness to obtain within set timeframe). Many employers list active P&C license as requirement.
Strong client-service orientation: ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understand their businesses, anticipate their needs, and deliver timely, accurate service.
Negotiation skills — comfortable negotiating terms with underwriters, balancing coverage needs with cost, and advising clients appropriately.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; collaborate with producers, underwriters, support staff, and clients.
Flexibility to travel as needed for client meetings or job-site visits (depending on project requirements).
Hybrid work structure — balance remote work with occasional in-office or on-site interactions in metro Denver
Direct involvement in shaping clients’ risk-management and insurance programs with complex exposures
Collaboration with experienced producers, underwriters, and support staff — chance to deepen construction insurance expertise
Potential for growth into senior leadership or risk-management advisory roles (especially given complexity and scope of construction clients)
Competitive compensation and possibility for performance-based incentives (renewal growth, retention, upsell)
