K. Jacobs is seeking a Fire Protection Designer for a well-established mechanical contracting firm in the Greater Boston area. This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-profile projects across the life sciences, healthcare, and higher education sectors.
 
You'll join a collaborative team committed to excellence, client satisfaction, and innovation in fire protection system design. Projects range from modest fit-outs to large-scale, multi-million-dollar facilities throughout the region.
 
What You’ll Do:
 
Working closely with the Sprinkler Operations Manager, you will:
 
  • Develop detailed sprinkler system layouts, coordinating with other MEP disciplines
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and material stock listings
  • Participate in coordination meetings (often virtual) with clients and project partners
  • Conduct site visits, field surveys, and hydrant flow tests
  • Support estimating efforts with drawing reviews and take-offs as needed

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience designing fire sprinkler systems
  • Solid knowledge of NFPA standards
  • Experience performing hydraulic calculations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • NICET certification and/or AutoSPRINK experience is a plus
  • Prior field installation experience also a plus
