This is a newly created and pivotal role with a leading PE/investment firm.  Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President, Tax, to join their team. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax planning, compliance, and strategy for the firm and its portfolio companies. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise in tax law, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Tax Planning and Strategy:
    • Develop and implement tax-efficient strategies to optimize the firm's overall tax position and maximize after-tax returns for investors.
    • Provide strategic guidance on tax implications related to investment structures, acquisitions, and divestitures.
    • Identify opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  2. Tax Compliance and Reporting:
    • Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
    • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and assess potential impact on the firm and its portfolio companies.
  3. Portfolio Company Support:
    • Collaborate with portfolio company management teams to optimize tax structures and strategies.
    • Provide guidance and support on tax-related matters, including transfer pricing, intercompany transactions, and international tax planning.
    • Conduct tax due diligence for potential investments and assist with integration efforts post-acquisition.
  4. Risk Management and Internal Controls:
    • Establish and maintain robust tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate tax-related risks.
    • Monitor and assess tax risks within the firm's operations and portfolio companies, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies as needed.
  5. Leadership and Development:
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture within the tax function and across the organization.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tax processes, systems, and capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree in taxation preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-12 years of progressive experience in tax, including experience within a private equity firm or public accounting firm serving private equity clients.
  • Strong technical expertise in corporate taxation, including partnership taxation, tax accounting, and M&A taxation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
