Primary Objectives and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Company’s Co-Managing Partners and Chief of Staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing and managing the company’s finance and accounting functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  Act as a strategic business partner and financial thought leader to the Co-Managing Partners and the leadership team.
 
  • Drive strategic business analyses, cash management, cost controls and key internal operations including but not limited to financial reporting, treasury, A/P, A/R, tax, financial planning & budgeting, cost accounting, and information technology
  • Provide timely month-end close information to all stakeholders on performance and profitability so adjustments can be made to impact the business in a positive way quickly
  • Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate quarterly and yearly analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends to assist the Co-Managing Partners and the leadership team in performing their responsibilities
  • Partner with department managers to continually improve the budgeting process through education about financial issues on their budgets
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs and strategies to determine profitability and use of resources
  • Create systems that will develop, implement and enhance policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and improving the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization, particularly in transaction processing
  • Partner in solving specific business challenges as requested, gaining credibility throughout the organization
  • Work with other departments to streamline, simplify & automate processes utilizing lean operating principles
  • Enhance the financial reporting system to provide operating managers with accurate, timely information that will assist in decision making and planning
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership in evaluation of contracts and capital expenditures
  • Manage audit process with outside audit firm
  • Oversight of employee benefit program and ERISA compliance
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all rules surrounding financial and tax reporting including payroll and benefits
  • Work closely with in house Tax Accountant to plan cash and distributions for corporate and shareholder tax needs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other outside vendors such as insurance brokers and lawyers
  • Mentor corporate team members in financial aspects of their roles including utilization of cost accounting methodologies, budgets and forecasting and adherence to GAAP
  • Assist in the short-term investing of working capital funds
  • Assist in the Investment of escrowed reserve funds
  • Supervise and mentor four professional staff members
 
Desired Profile:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field required CPA or MBA strongly preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience some of which should be in a commercial real estate, Construction and Development and multi-family apartments environment
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage complex and shifting priorities
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP required
  • Successful leadership and team building experience required
  • Ability to build trusting relationships across functions with an engaging, positive, and dynamic personality
  • Prior experience with YARDI Voyager is a plus
  • Possesses excellent problem-solving skills with a solution-based approach
  • Excellent communication both written and oral with a boardroom presence and comfort presenting to larger groups
  • Possesses a high level of integrity at all times
