The senior buyer is responsible for selecting and negotiating with approved domestic and international vendors and placing purchase orders in response to product requirements established by various departments within the organization.

 Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Responsible for selecting and negotiating with approved domestic and international vendors and placing purchase orders in response to product requirements established by various departments within the organization.

  • Evaluate bids, select and recommend suppliers and negotiate price, quality and service.
  • Expedite the procurement of parts or materials in short or critical supply.
  • Perform market analyses and competitive evaluations.
  • Negotiate and settle with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections and losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.
  • Conduct supplier site visits and rate them as to production capability, performance and delivery as needed.
  • Provide work leadership for lower-level employees as needed.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree  Requires at least 5 years related experience.
  • Knows a wide range concepts and approaches including purchasing for lean manufacturing, Kanban and supplier development.
  • Requires strong negotiation abilities and above average analytical skills. Shows excellent verbal and written communication skills including with executives or in international contexts.
  • Requires knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control. 
  • Competent in computerized procurement systems. MUST HAVE SAP EXPERIENCE.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
