Job Summary: This position reports to Manager, Quality Assurance and performs materials engineering evaluations, data analysis, trials and engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks. Tasks include the design and improvements of products and service on assigned segments to assure timely delivery of product which meets or exceeds customer specifications and expectations.
Responsibilities:
Works to analyze continuous improvement activities and develops actions
Applies extensive knowledge and experience in all metallurgical-materials related activities of testing and R&D projects
Evaluates held coils and determines proper disposition, for example; skip against order, perform remedial work, reapply to other orders or scraps
Tracks, monitors, and audits product and process results to ensure desired material properties, quality levels, and manufacturability are achieved.
Determines root causes of failures using analytical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
Provides direction for continuous improvement of processes and capabilities.
Provides the technical expertise and experience to make decisions.
Works with cutting-edge and industry leading technology and processes.
Compiles and analyzes data; identifies root causes and rectifies; and develops measures of performance on all processes.
Ensures that process specifications, work instructions, equipment controls, and monitoring are in place, working and properly communicated
Coordinates new product development such as high strength steel trials, applications and other special projects such as improvement of phosphate application and exposed steel continuous improvement.
Uses quality tools to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance.
Interfaces with Business Planning to identify and correct customer order errors.
Evaluates reapplication of product for compatibility with product specifications and develops/transmits processing instructions for Business Planning.
Reviews and evaluates quality complaints to identify defects, determine root cause/source and collaborates with appropriate engineering/technical associates to determine corrective action
Responds to requests from Engineers and Sales associates on process capabilities.
Manages and tracks Corrective Action Report list for assigned customer(s) and communicates statues to management.
Requirements:
Knowledge of steel technologies, processes and quality issues
Knowledge of coating processes equipment, process limitations, product defects, etc.
Effective communication skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering or related area of concentration required
3 – 5 years of experience in automotive, steel, quality field
