We are seeking a highly experienced Tooling Manager to oversee tooling operations for a growing foundry specializing in green sand molding. This role is ideal for a leader with deep technical knowledge of molds, dies, and tooling systems who thrives in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.
\nAs the Tooling Manager, you’ll be responsible for the full lifecycle of tooling — from design and build to maintenance and retirement. You’ll manage a skilled team, oversee vendor partnerships, and ensure all tooling meets customer, quality, and cost requirements.
\nTooling Manager Duties Include:
\nManaging the design, development, procurement, and implementation of new tooling, trim dies, gages, and fixtures.
\nOverseeing predictive and preventive maintenance schedules for all tooling and equipment.
\nProviding technical support and troubleshooting for tooling-related production issues to minimize downtime.
\nLeading, training, and mentoring a team of tooling technicians and engineers.
\nEnsuring all tooling meets specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
\nCollaborating with engineering, sales, production, vendors, and customers.
\nDriving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tooling performance and reduce costs.
\nManaging budgets, tooling costs, and procurement of tools, materials, and outsourced services.
\nSupervising day-to-day pattern shop and layout room operations.
\nSupporting root cause analysis, corrective actions, and quality improvement projects.
\nBachelor’s degree in engineering.
\n10+ years of relevant experience, with at least 5+ years in a managerial/supervisory role.
\nProficiency with CAD software (CATIA, AutoCAD).
\nStrong knowledge of GD&T, casting modeling, simulation, and solidification.
\nHands-on experience with CNC machines, lathes, milling, surface grinding, drilling, and welding equipment.
\nFamiliarity with Toyota Production System and continuous improvement (Kaizen).
\nStrong leadership, organization, and project management skills.
\nExcellent communication skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a skilled trades team.
