Position Summary

The responsibilities of the Architectural Designer include meeting with staff and clients to create drawings, designs, and layouts, and complying with industry regulations and client requests.

Essential Functions  

  • Develop Conceptual Site Plans and Architectural Drawings utilizing AutoCAD, Revitt, and/or SketchUp
  • Draft floorplans for interior buildouts for existing and new construction
  • Design elevations for new construction
  • Creating real estate marketing pieces via Adobe InDesign
  • Interpret municipal ordinances and building codes via Municode, BS&A, ASHRAE, Michigan Building Code, Americans with Disabilities Act, etc
  • Prepare and Pursue Permit Submissions
  • Draft correspondence in Microsoft Word
  • Transmittals to municipalities
  • Response to review letters and municipal review comments
  • Scanning and filing drawings; Organizing and archiving civil, architectural and structural construction drawings
  • Assist Project Manager in all aspects of furthering entitlement process and readying for construction
  • Coordinating photometric drawings using AGi32 photometric software

Qualifications

Education:        2-year AutoCAD or related degree preferred.

Experience:       2 – 4 years commercial construction experience

Skills:   

  • Archiving/document storage organization and administration of Auto CAD
  • Architectural site plan approval packages
  • Commercial and industrial design
  • Interior buildout floor plans
  • Reading and interpreting Building Codes; ASHRAE standards
  • Working knowledge of CAD standards, Auto CAD, Adobe InDesign, Revitt, Sketchup and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read design drawings.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work individually under minimal direction and within teams
  • Ability to work quickly and in a potentially high-stress environment

Other Requirements:     Valid Michigan Driver’s License and/or Chauffer’s License as required.

 

Working conditions

This position is an office-based position during normal business hours 8:30am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.  There may be occasional requests to travel into the field or to work a Saturday, project based

Physical requirements

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary (sitting) position 50% of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces as necessary on job sites.
