Our client, a global leader in the design, manufacture, and support of advanced electronic systems for the U.S. government, is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Vice President of Business Development to lead federal growth initiatives in the Defense and Homeland Security sectors.
Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of Business Development will be responsible for driving the company’s growth strategy through the identification, pursuit, and capture of new business opportunities with federal agencies—specifically the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This executive role will oversee the business development lifecycle, lead capture teams, shape customer relationships, and guide corporate positioning for long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of strategic business development plans that support corporate growth objectives.
- Define and drive capture strategies for key federal opportunities in the Defense and Homeland Security markets.
- Oversee and mentor business development and sales teams; establish goals, metrics, and accountability for performance and results.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders in the DoD, DHS, and other relevant agencies.
- Serve as the voice of the customer, aligning business strategy with market demands, operational requirements, and emerging mission needs.
- Manage sales opportunities as a pipeline portfolio, ensuring a disciplined pursuit process and effective resource allocation.
- Provide executive-level oversight of proposal development, win strategies, and competitive positioning for large-scale federal contracts.
- Monitor BD performance metrics and implement corrective actions to ensure goals are met within allocated budgets and timelines.
- Champion best practices in capture planning, teaming strategies, and pricing alignment to optimize win probability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or related field required (B.S./B.A.); Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in business development and capture leadership roles supporting U.S. federal defense customers.
- At least 10 years of senior-level management experience, including leading capture teams and driving multi-million-dollar contract wins.
- Demonstrated success in selling complex defense technologies, including integrated surveillance systems, radar, sensors, and command-and-control platforms.
- Deep familiarity with federal acquisition processes and proposal development standards.
- Proven track record of cultivating executive-level relationships and influencing procurement decisions.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously and lead diverse cross-functional teams.
- U.S. Citizenship required and must be eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
- Willingness to travel up to 50%.
