Our client, a very reputable Austin area law firm, is seeking to hire a skilled and experienced Legal Secretary with Appellate experience to join their team. This position is full-time, at the office, and requires the willingness to learn appellate law and support attorneys in both litigation and appeals. Job Responsibilities:
Create, revise, and maintain a diverse range of legal documents with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
E-file documents with various state and federal courts to ensure efficient and compliant submissions.
Mark and generate tables for lengthy briefs, enhancing organizational and navigational aspects.
Develop e-briefs by expertly adding hyperlinks to internal cross-references, citations to evidence, and authorities for easy access and reference.
Maintain client files, ensuring well-organized electronic filings, served documents, correspondence, and other case-related materials on the firm’s shared server for active files.
Efficiently retrieve cases via Westlaw to support attorneys in their research endeavors.
Assist with various stages of case management, including preparation of trial exhibits.
Oversee management of Houston office, ensuring a professional and functional environment.
Assist in trouble-shooting simple technical issues with guidance from the Firm Administrator and/or IT.
Perform administrative tasks including date calendaring, answering telephones, distributing incoming mail, file management, and occasionally depositing client checks.
Job Requirements:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a legal secretary, supporting appellate law attorneys.
A comprehensive understanding of state and federal court rules and filing procedures to ensure adherence to all regulations.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook to produce high-quality legal documents and maintain smooth communication.
Experience with legal practice management software is preferred.
Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, exhibiting flexibility and adaptability when needed.
Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact professionally with all levels of staff and clients.
Willingness to occasionally work overtime to meet critical project requirements.
