A leading AmLaw 100 international law firm is seeking a talented Associate Attorney to join its premier Intellectual Property Practice, focusing on patent prosecution across a wide range of chemical engineering and materials science innovations. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies while collaborating closely with a nationally integrated team of top-tier IP practitioners.

 

 

Candidate Profile

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school with an excellent academic record
  • Active Bar Admission in the applicable jurisdiction, in good standing
  • 1–3 years of substantive patent prosecution experience
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science
  • Demonstrated experience with technologies including filtration, materials science, polymer science, and medical devices
  • Experience preparing and prosecuting both chemical and mechanical patent applications
  • Patent searching, prior art analysis, and patentability assessment experience preferred
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, client-focused, team-oriented environment
 
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in chemical engineering and materials science disciplines
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and prior art analyses
  • Collaborate with partners and clients to develop strategic approaches to IP protection
  • Support portfolio management efforts for major corporate clients and emerging technology companies
  • Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and effectively in written and verbal form
  • Work closely with colleagues across offices to deliver seamless, high-quality client service

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Annual salary range of $175,000– $255,000, as determined by experience and market factors
  • Bonus Eligibility: Productivity-based and discretionary bonus opportunities
