EHS Leader – Heavy Industry

We are looking for an EHS Leader who is energetic, motivated & collaborative and has extensive experience with multi-site 24/7 heavy industry manufacturing operations with 500+ people on behalf of our client. This position is a key member of the Plant Leadership Team & provides leadership & direction for the plant.

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Safety 1st Focus, with a mindset that ZERO injuries & recordables is possible.
  • 7+ years of experience as a plant EHS professional in a 24/7 heavy industry manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of experience leading a team of 10+ people.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of plant and functional groups within the organization.
  • Ability to effectively conduct large-scale meetings virtually or in person.  Capable of leading an organization of 500+ people for EHS
  • Ability to lead improvement processes within various areas and levels of the organization.
  • Superior ability to influence/persuade stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external
  • Experience with audits & ISO 45001 (Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) highly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge & experience with EHS regulations, laws & guidelines & the ability to work with regulatory agencies.

 

EDUCATION: Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health Safety and Environment. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Include:

  • Leads team of safety professionals (direct reports), focusing the team’s goals and objectives on shop floor employee engagement and culture change to one of continuous safety thinking in the pathway of the work.
  • Drives fatality prevention activity and programs as the highest priority (Critical 6, 7, or 8 9) and oversees the work of the plant resources who have responsibility for each fatality prevention program.
  • Has a strong shop floor presence among the operating personnel and plant leadership and spends significant time engaging employees, coaching, conducting WOCs, and developing a consistent dialogue to keep safety at the forefront of all activity and in the pathway of the work.
  • Targets a minimum of 75% shop floor time for all safety professionals on the team.
  • Maintains compliance to all OSHA (region and Federal), the EPA, the state environmental agency, and other applicable regulatory standards for the site. Develops relationships with local agency representatives.
  • Ensures all EHS team activity focuses on results – reduction in total recordable injuries, first aid, minor injuries, and environmental incidents.
  • Maintains and deploys a standard of excellence in the assessment of injury and injury-free incident cases to ensure proper classification, escalation processes, root cause analysis and determination of effective countermeasures, including the development of major incident read across processes (case management). Helps to drive improvement in case management at the plant level with support from their assigned Region EHS Manager.
  • Collaborates with the Management Systems Team to support the ISO 45001 (Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) standards.
  • Provides guidance and direction in the design and deployment of the management system at the plant level so that it is an effective and functional tool that drives the desired EHS and compliance culture.
  • Supports and conducts effective EHS audits of the company’s facilities to support continuous improvement.
  • Works to implement effective corrective actions resulting from audit findings. Participates in BA auditing program which involves occasional participation in cross-audits of other company facilities.
  • Facilitates training at the site for EHS topics as needed (new employee, refresher) and manages content of the training as needed.
