The Controller is responsible for all day-to-day accounting operations, including internal controls, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. This role leads the accounting team and ensures accurate, timely financial information is available to leadership.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Lead accounting operations including GL, AR/AP, payroll support, and reconciliations.
• Oversee all AP payment processing.
• Manage the monthly and year-end close process.
• Produce timely financial statements to CFO and leadership team.
• Monitor cash flow and make recommendations to optimize working capital.
• Build and monitor annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
• Analyze financial performance and KPIs for internal decision-making.
• Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation.
• Collaborate with CFO on tax strategy and financing decisions.
• Assist CFO in capital expenditures and equipment financing based on ROI and payback.
• Support insurance audits and prepare any reports or documentation during audit.
• Oversee WIP reporting and job cost reviews submitted by Project Accountant.
• Train and mentor Bookkeeper.
• Oversee all accounting operations for other entities owned by owners including a development company and storage unit company.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
• Experience with construction, excavation a plus.
• Proficient with QuickBooks Online and Excel.
• Detail-oriented, highly organized, and strong in process improvement.
• Able to work independently and proactively in a dynamic company environment.
DESIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• 5+ years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
• Professional certification such as CPA, CMA, or ACCA is a plus.
