Job Title: Safety and Reliability CoordinatorReports To: Plant ManagerSUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Plant Manager, the Safety and Reliability Coordinator oversees all aspects of safety, training, and the maintenance smart program, with responsibilities in the plant and production areas. The role includes directing and coordinating the company's safety program, updating written procedures, conducting hazard and risk assessments, facilitating employee training, assisting with accident/incident investigations, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SAFETY:

  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and updating of written safety programs.
  • Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risks and ensure adherence to the company’s safety plan.
  • Conduct employee orientation, monthly safety meetings, and other necessary training.
  • Provide safety training focused on accident prevention, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and forklift operations.
  • Maintain safety metrics, including those for forklift operations and LOTO compliance.
  • Monitor adherence to safety policies and legal requirements by reviewing employee and operational practices.
  • Maintain OSHA logs and company records, submitting reports as required.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities to identify possible unsafe conditions.
  • Assist with accident/incident investigations to determine root causes in a timely manner.
  • Help with workers’ compensation paperwork and assist employees in getting medical care when needed.
  • Oversee near misses, incidents, and accidents, ensuring the appropriate paperwork is completed.
  • Recommend solutions for identified workplace hazards and risks, and identify areas for improvement or new preventive measures. Conduct safety walks throughout the plant.
  • Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports with recommendations for corrective or preventive measures, and ensure implementation.
  • Audit the facility and site for compliance with company and SQF (Safe Quality Food) security standards.
  • Lead efforts to maintain up-to-date security measures and programs. Update SOPs and procedure documents, and review them annually.
  • Coach employees on safety policies and administer disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SAFETY COORDINATOR:

  • Prioritize safety at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee safety programs, LOTO, and training throughout the plant.
  • Diagnose safety issues related to mechanical equipment and consult with maintenance for repairs when necessary.
  • Safety will be the primary focus, comprising 30% of daily duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with plant safety programs, hazard/risk analysis, accident investigations, and OSHA workplace regulations. Must also demonstrate strong decision-making, leadership, conflict management, and performance alignment skills.
  • Must be able to perform essential job duties satisfactorily, with experience in GMPs, HACCP, process improvement, and quality assurance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to maintain morale and foster positive interactions among employees.
  • Food Mfg experience is preferred.

RELIABILITY COORDINATOR:

SUMMARY:The primary objective of the Reliability Coordinator is to drive the reliability-centered maintenance process and oversee the inspection, planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance and improvement activities in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner. This role involves direct responsibility for a project or a specific set of tasks within a department or program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RELIABILITY:

  • Maintain and oversee the Maintenance Smart Program, facilitating and tracking work orders.
  • Plan, organize, and report on projects, process solutions, and repairs.
  • Build strong working relationships with management, site resources, and vendors.
  • Communicate effectively across teams.
  • Understand fundamental controls concepts and equipment functionality.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Diagnose safety issues related to mechanical equipment.
  • Work closely with other department managers.
  • The focus on reliability coordination will comprise 70% of daily duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of OSHA workplace requirements and experience managing safety programs in a manufacturing facility is essential. Familiarity with Maintenance Smart is a plus.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; 1-2 years of experience in safety and maintenance preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs, including Outlook, and Microsoft Excel is highly desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Strong communication skills required for effective interaction with employees and management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve complex problems and handle variables in situations with limited experience. Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions, whether written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing duties, the employee must occasionally use hands and fingers, reach with arms, and engage in tasks requiring full range of motion, such as lifting, twisting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and stooping.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. or more.
  • Must work on concrete surfaces and in environments exposed to noise from equipment.
  • Climbing stairs is required.
  • Must work in a refrigerated environment (35 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • The job is fast-paced, and the ability to manage stress is critical.

Full-time Position:Monday through Friday, generally 8 hours per day. Travel is not required.
