We’re excited to help them find a passionate and skilled SQF Practitioner/Health & Safety professional (6-Month Contract) to join their team in Mount Brydges, ON.

 

This 6-month contract offers a unique leadership opportunity for a passionate food safety professional. As the SQF Practitioner, you’ll manage the food safety system, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive product safety and quality. Ideal candidates bring expertise in food safety systems, health & safety, and a collaborative approach to leadership.

SQF Practitioner/Health & Safety (Contract) Responsibilities

  • Oversee Food Safety, Health & Safety, and support Quality Control operations.
  • Manage, update, and maintain the SQF System, food safety fundamentals, and plans to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare for audits by conducting internal reviews and ensuring the readiness of the SQF System.
  • Communicate updates and relevant system information to staff for effective implementation.
  • Identify training needs, ensure staff competence in food safety, and lead the Food Safety and Sanitation teams.
  • Conduct and participate in weekly, biweekly, and monthly management, HACCP, and product development meetings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain certifications and ensure audit readiness.
  • Act as the primary liaison for third-party auditors and government agencies, such as CFIA and the Ministry of Labour.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations while maintaining accurate documentation and manuals.
  • Manage the purchasing of materials for Sanitation and the Microbiology Lab, staying within budget constraints.
  • Oversee product quality and safety, ensuring adherence to high standards across all manufacturing processes.

SQF Practitioner/Health & Safety (Contract) Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of food safety experience with HACCP and SQF expertise.
  • HACCP and/or SQF Level 1 & 2 certifications required.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and adaptable to new software like LabelView and ESHA Genesis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial resources.
  • Collaborative management style with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Effective in fast-paced environments with strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Open to feedback, innovative, and able to challenge current practices.
  • Works well in diverse teams and fosters positive relationships.
