Job Summary 

The Project Manager, Wildfire Mitigation Home Hardening position involves planning, implementing, and managing wildfire risk reduction initiatives, including fuel management, defensible space creation, wildfire preparedness, community outreach, and collaboration with various stakeholders for a local public client. This position will support the goal of reducing the threat to life and property in the community's urban/wildland interface.

Job Classification: Permanent, Full Time   

Duty Station: Sonora, CA  

Travel: Occasional travel, less than 15% of the time, may be required.   

Compensation:  

Chloeta reserves the right to offer any candidate above or below the listed compensation amount based on experience or business needs.   

  • $40.00 - $60.00 per hour  

  • FSLA Non-Exempt  

 

 Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Provides critical outreach and education to residents within the project area about wildfire loss prevention and mitigation opportunities. 

  • Performs site assessments within project area for identification of wildfire retrofit and defensible space, which may reduce wildfire ignition risks on private residential properties. 

  • Works with the client’s staff to facilitate development and implementation of an ongoing marketing campaign to educate the community in support of project objectives. 

  • May oversees Outreach Specialists/Homeowner Liaison(s) who will be responsible for homeowner outreach, education and engagement. 

  • May oversees Home Assessor(s) who will be responsible for completing initial assessments which will be used to develop the scope of work at each project home site.   

  • Manages contractors and provides oversight of performing of home hardening and defensible space activities on residential structures within the project area to mitigate vulnerabilities.  

  • Maintains scheduled office presence and participates in regular meetings with client staff and other agencies involved in the project. 

  • Manages applicable project budget in traditional categories of performance to meet financial objectives and project deliverables to timeline.  

  • Develops and recommends contingency plans for seasonal weather and environmental conditions affecting normal operations. 

  • Works with the client’s project staff to create tri-party agreements to be signed by the client and each homeowner ensuring an accurate scope of work and price reflective of quote provided by approved contractor are included. 

  • Administers and performs final site inspections, assign & clear corrective actions, report completed milestones and deliverables. 

  • Collaborates with client leadership to ensure the efficient issuance of permits required by the project. 

  • Provides written reports on the status of permitting for the project. 

  • Communicates any issues associated with permitting to the client’s staff. 

  • Manages construction managers' timely submission of site permits through applicable agency processes. 

  • Supports the client in developing presentations as needed 

  • Oversees and implements fiscal management to ensure appropriate budgeting, coding and monitoring for compliance and reporting project financial & work performance data to the client. 

  • Works with the client to ensure contractor payments are issued in a timely manner.

Required Skills/Ability 

  • Must possess strong facilitation and communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with diverse organizations, community groups and community members. 

  • Must have a valid California driver's license, a verifiable good driving record, and access to a vehicle with insurance that covers the employee as the driver OR reliable transportation with proof of automobile insurance. 

  • Demonstrated ability to organize time and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail to meet project outcomes and timeframes, as well as delegate tasks as appropriate. 

  • The ability and willingness to take direction and work with the client’s staff to ensure priorities are correctly aligned and accomplished. 

  • Possess a general understanding of accounting processes relating to budget management. 

  • Proficient in using automated tools and applications, including Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and Teams, for presenting ideas, reports, and information. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong business acumen. 

  • Excellent written communication abilities and experience presenting to both small and large groups. 

 

Education and Experience 

  • Required: A minimum combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited school, plus a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience. 

  • Required: A minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising staff is required. 

  • Required: Knowledge of construction management, home hardening and defensible space techniques and materials, worksite safety, CA labor regulations, and general contract performance. 

  • Required: Knowledge of principles and techniques of financial management and reporting. 

  • Required: Knowledge of computer competence sufficient to perform data entry and spreadsheet management as well as utilize various web-based applications and software; ability to use these systems to analyze data and compile reports as needed. 

  • Preferred:Past experience with project-based work and/or administration of grant-funded programs. 

  • Preferred: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in both English and Spanish   

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer   

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.     

  • May require some driving to various work site within the community.
