Our client is a recognized player in the steel fabrication sector, supplying high-quality components for major infrastructure and commercial construction projects across the region. With advanced in-house capabilities for fabrication, welding, and assembly, the company supports projects ranging from industrial facilities to transportation structures and complex architectural builds.

The Assistant Purchasing Manager will work closely with the Purchasing Manager to handle material sourcing, cost estimation, and inventory oversight within the fabrication plant. The role ensures materials are available on time, costs remain competitive, and all quality and scheduling requirements are met. In addition, this position provides full coverage of the Purchasing Manager’s responsibilities when needed.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Source raw materials and MRO supplies to meet job schedules and minimize cost 

  • Manage material inventory, including purchasing, receiving, scrap, and cycle counts 

  • Apply ASTM A6 standards and Tekla EPM for accurate purchasing and inventory 

  • Lead purchasing team and maintain accurate pricing data and mill test records 

  • Oversee freight logistics, material flow, and cutting bills for production 

  • Coordinate with accounting for invoice approvals and payments 

  • Ensure system and physical alignment of inventory 

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a materials management-related field 

  • Minimum 5 years of steel or related industry experience 

  • At least 5 years of purchasing experience and 1 year in a supervisory role 

  • Proficiency in ASTM A6 standards and Tekla EPM 

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
