About the RoleA leading national healthcare services provider is seeking a Director of Business Development to expand its footprint in the pharmaceutical and diagnostic sectors. This role sits within a high-growth division focused on delivering laboratory support, clinical trial services, and diagnostic solutions to companies developing the next generation of therapies and technologies.

The ideal candidate will have experience building commercial relationships with pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies, contract research organizations (CROs), and related life sciences organizations. You’ll drive strategic sales engagements related to clinical testing, diagnostics support, and trial enablement solutions.

This is a remote, individual contributor position with national scope and regular travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and grow client relationships with biopharma, diagnostics developers, and clinical research entities.

  • Identify opportunities to deliver customized diagnostic and lab solutions that support clinical research and product development.

  • Lead all aspects of the sales cycle — from initial outreach and qualification through contract execution.

  • Collaborate with internal scientific, operational, and commercial teams to ensure successful client engagement and delivery.

  • Develop detailed proposals and executive presentations tailored to client needs.

  • Maintain and manage a healthy pipeline across new and existing accounts.

  • Monitor industry trends, gather market intelligence, and help shape the evolution of service offerings based on client feedback.

  • Support strategic marketing initiatives to raise visibility of offerings within the life sciences community.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 5+ years of experience in life sciences business development, with a focus on diagnostics, lab services, or clinical research

  • Demonstrated ability to close complex deals and maintain long-term partnerships

  • Strong consultative selling skills, with the ability to understand technical/scientific needs and align with commercial solutions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to executive audiences

  • Strong self-motivation and organizational skills; thrives in independent, remote roles

  • Willingness to travel nationally as needed (estimated 25–50%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of diagnostic development and commercialization processes (e.g., CDx, LDTs)

  • Familiarity with clinical trial operations, CROs, or biomarker-driven research

  • Previous experience working within or selling to pharmaceutical R&D or precision medicine teams

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required (science, business, or healthcare-related field preferred)

  • Advanced degree a plus
