Director of Operations – Position Specification
POSITION: Director of Operations
JOB LOCATION: CT or RI
DIRECT REPORTS: 9
TRAVEL: 50% between CT and RI
Position Overview
The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing plant operations at the manufacturing facilities in Eastern Connecticut and the Greater Providence area. The ideal candidate should possess robust experience in operations management and a proven track record in Lean deployment. The Operations Director will play a pivotal role in advancing the business growth by enhancing key performance indicators (KPIs) and optimizing all operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
· Developing and executing operations and procurement strategies, including overseeing supply chain management at both locations
· Establishing manufacturing objectives aligned with the organization’s strategic and operating plans
· Developing and implementing a culture of Continuous Improvement to improve KPIs around Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory
· Driving operations optimization with a focus on simplification and efficiency
· Enhancing on-time delivery, reducing backlogs, and improving overall productivity
· Collaborating with Division Leadership to establish and meet profitable growth and business targets
· Collaborating closely with the Directors of Sales and Engineering to drive continuous improvement and consolidation across the organization’s global business
· Facilitating the internal exchange of best practices and set advanced standards for facilities
· Leading the implementation of new technologies to drive innovation in operations
· Coordinating and overseeing cross-functional global projects
· Implementing and training on key Lean manufacturing principles including Visual Management, structured Problem Solving, inventory management, and overall process improvement
Education and Experience
· Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field
· Plant Management and/or multi-site Director of Operations experience required
· Experience managing operations within an industrial manufacturing environment
· Global experience and cross-cultural understanding
· Self-motivated and independent, with a strong desire for continuous growth and learning
· Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills
