Established, profitable, high-profile organization is seeking a Plant Chemist to report to the Director of Product Development. You will spend 80% of your day on new projects and 20% of your day supporting the manufacturing process. The Plant Chemist will be responsible for the following functions:
- Develop and improve product formulations and manufacturing processes, with a focus on performance and sustainability
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing team and collaborate with sales/marketing to ensure product success
- Identify and evaluate innovative materials to enhance product cost, performance and reduce waste
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures for raw materials, production and finished products
- Maintain accurate records of materials, processes and formulations
- Communicate with customers on the status of testing and projects
- Schedule outside third party testing as needed
- Complete hands-on testing in the lab while delegating tasks to lab technicians
- Other duties as delegated by the Director
Candidates will be required to be flexible with their work requirements and tasks. This position does require candidates to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to work independently, have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to manage multiple projects at a time. Successful candidates will be able to build rapport and relationships at all levels. REQUIREMENTS for the Plant Chemist:1. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Material Science or Chemical Engineering 2. Ideally 1-2 years of work experience, with the minimum of co-op or internship experience 3. Work experience or coursework in plastics, polymers or organic chemistry 4. Willing to be hands on in the role, including running laboratory testing
5. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word and ExcelSkills preferred but NOT required: 1. Manufacturing experience 2. Extrusion or compression molding
3. Calendaring or mixing experience
Candidates are preferred to be local to the Findlay, Ohio area. There is a conservative relocation package available for candidates meeting all of the required skill sets.
