We are seeking a highly experienced Maintenance and Reliability Manager to lead the maintenance organization at Plant facility. This role is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to ensure the reliability, safety, and compliance of all plant equipment and systems. The successful candidate will drive maintenance excellence, foster a strong team culture, and partner with plant leadership to optimize operational performance.

This position emphasizes strategic leadership, reliability programs, and proactive maintenance and managing the maintenance team. This person will manage a team of maintenance and 2 reliability engineers. 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and inspire the maintenance team, including union and non-union staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Participate in the site leadership team to align maintenance objectives with overall business goals.

  • Hire, onboard, train, and develop team members, managing performance appraisals, career progression, and employee engagement.

  • Resolve grievances in coordination with Human Resources and ensure fair personnel practices.

Maintenance Operations & Reliability

  • Oversee all planned, preventive, and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Direct preparation and execution of plant shutdowns and annual outages.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to troubleshoot and resolve recurring reliability issues.

  • Lead reliability improvement initiatives, including Lean and continuous improvement projects.

  • Implement maintenance engineering and capital improvement projects to reduce downtime and extend asset life.

  • Maintain and optimize critical spare parts and MRO inventory.

Strategic Planning & Budget Management

  • Develop, manage, and optimize the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective maintenance operations.

  • Maintain a strategic plan to protect assets and maintain compliance with corporate and industry standards.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through vendor evaluation, material management, and process improvements.

Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with EH&S, food/pharma safety standards (GMP, HACCP), and company policies.

  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and conduct investigations into safety or environmental incidents.

  • Establish training programs and drills to improve employee safety awareness and preparedness.

Systems & Technology

  • Support and improve SAP or other ERP maintenance management systems.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with plant operational standards, procedures, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent in-plant experience.

  • 5–7 years as a maintenance engineer and 3–4 years in a maintenance management role, preferably in food, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing.

  • Experience leading transformational reliability programs.

  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, ERP/SAP systems, and unionized workforce management.

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage budgets, resources, and cross-functional projects effectively.
