Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Business Systems Analyst (BSA) to join a new and growing IT department. This role will be pivotal in supporting IT initiatives that enhance business processes, optimize systems, and deliver impactful solutions. Reporting directly to the Head of IT, the BSA will collaborate closely with stakeholders across various business units to ensure alignment with organizational goals while fostering a collaborative and Agile-driven culture.

This position offers the unique opportunity to play a foundational role in shaping the practices and culture of a dynamic IT team. A background in financial services or mortgage loan operations is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering & Analysis

  • Work with stakeholders to collect, analyze, validate, and document business and system requirements.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of use cases, user stories, workflows, and process diagrams.

Process Analysis & Improvement

  • Conduct gap analyses between current and desired states of business processes and systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance operational efficiencies, and reduce costs.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Use SQL and T-SQL to analyze data and develop reports using Power BI to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Handle ad-hoc reporting requests and resolve user issues related to data analysis.

System Support & Documentation

  • Manage the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for assigned projects, ensuring clear documentation and successful implementation.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including workflows, data mappings, and business rules.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between IT and business units, ensuring effective communication and alignment.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning and retrospectives, and foster a positive, solution-oriented team culture.

Quality Assurance

  • Test and validate system changes to confirm they meet business requirements and function as intended.
  • Write and execute test cases to ensure quality assurance across projects.

Cultural Development

  • Act as a foundational member of the IT department, contributing to a collaborative and innovative team culture.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • 3–5+ years of experience in business systems analysis, with a focus on requirements gathering, process improvement, and technical implementation.
  • Previous experience in financial services, human capital management systems, or mortgage loan operations preferred.

Skills

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and Power BI for querying, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as JIRA for project management and collaboration.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into actionable technical specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Six Sigma, PMI PMP, or related areas.
  • Familiarity with mortgage systems or other financial services platforms.

Physical Demands

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Regularly required to use hands, reach, and talk or hear.

Work Environment

  • This role is onsite 5 days a week in Irvine, CA, fostering collaboration and innovation as part of a new IT build.
