The EC self-contained teacher plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students with exceptionalities. This position involves teaching a self-contained classroom where students receive individualized educational instruction tailored to their unique learning needs. This role requires collaboration with special education staff, therapists, and parents to create and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that align with each student's goals. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with exceptionalities.
  • Create and adapt lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of learners in a self-contained classroom.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to engage students and facilitate learning.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and parents to support student development.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes social and emotional growth.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of best practices in special education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master's degree is preferred.
  • Valid state teaching certification in special education or eligibility for such licensure.
  • Must be certified in North Carolina in an EC area.
  • Experience working with students with exceptionalities in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Capability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive learning environment.
