Director of Operations – Position Specification

 

POSITION:  Director of Operations

JOB LOCATION:  Aurora, MO

DIRECT REPORTS:  ~6 direct reports

TRAVEL: None

 

Position Overview

 

The primary responsibility of the Director of Site Operations is to lead day-to-day operations of Aurora, MO facility. This location is a key flagship site within the division and overall organization. This position will work closely with the Vice President, Global Operations and other global functional leaders to develop and deploy strategies that are aligned with organizational short and long-term goals and objectives.

 

The right candidate will have strong experience in Lean deployment and familiarity working within a Business Operating System environment. The Director of Operations should have progressive roles within manufacturing environments including Plant Management, as well as previous experience managing a Supply Chain budget.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

·       Managing production and plant operations across the Aurora facility

·       Utilizing the Lean business system to drive a culture of continuous improvement and efficiencies for Core Value Drivers including People, Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost

·       Developing and deploying the Operations and Engineering strategy, working in partnership with the Global Functional Organizations

·       Establishing, revising and promoting manufacturing policies and procedures for safety, quality, on-time and in-full delivery, and cost control

·       Working with global and regional supply chain leaders on material usage, capacity planning, production scheduling, and other processes that impact supply chain performance

·       Ensuring compliance with safety policies and regulations and lead the organization to a zero-incident culture

·       Driving employee engagement and manager effectiveness to support employee development, succession planning and retention

·       Actively participating in the deployment of Lean directly and indirectly by driving an expectation that team members participate in Lean deployment

·       Implementing, coaching, developing, and driving accountability with the site Operations team in the consistent execution of Lean principles and methodologies to consolidate and analyze site performance metrics

·       Providing support (resources, processes, etc.) to problem solve operational, manufacturing, and facility gaps

·       Owning the annual and five-year capital plan and working closely with Global Functional Leaders to track major capital expenditures

·       Ensuring adherence to schedule and budget, tracking ongoing performance to compare to stated goals, and conducting post-mortems on capital projects

·       Overseeing customer support to enhance customer satisfaction and urgency to resolve customer concerns

·       Delivering on financial goals per the 5-year strategic plan and 1-year operating budget

·       Preparing annual budgets to support strategy and manage expenses within approved budgets to promote profitability

·       Reviewing analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine department progress toward stated goals and objectives

·       Actively participating in the SIOP process; utilizing inputs to drive decision-making on inventory stocking strategies and operations and resource planning

·       Collaborating with Global Supply Chain on contingency and manufacturing planning

 

 

Education and Experience

 

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field

·       Minimum 10 years of manufacturing operations management experience including plant management and other progressive leadership roles

·       Experience in food manufacturing, continuous process manufacturing, or similar industry strongly preferred

·       Understanding of Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, and other key departments within manufacturing

·       Demonstrated experience with Lean tools including Strategy Deployment, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, Standard Work, FMEA, Problem Solving, Kanban, Visual Daily Management, 80/20

·       Demonstrated leadership and team-building capabilities, including people development, coaching, goal setting, and evaluation

·       Ability to effectively manage changing priorities and ambiguity while remaining controlled and positive

·       Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills to a variety of audiences

·       Business and financial acumen; ability to interpret and utilize financial documents

 

Compensation

 

  • Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. It will include a base salary and an annual performance bonus, long term incentives, and other benefits and perquisites.
