Mechanical Engineer- intermediate or senior levels -2 needed     

Established electronics company on Long Island is starting new projects and going through a growth phase. We are actively seeking candidates for several key positions in electronic hardware design, software development, mechanical engineering, test engineering, project engineering, systems engineering, etc. including the position below. Qualified candidates will have experience with box and board level mechanical design, finite element analysis, modelling and analysis of heat transfer characteristics, shock and vibration analysis, complex thermal and structural simulation, SolidWorks or other CAD/modelling experience.

Essential Functions:

  • To provide technical leadership within the Engineering department to solve mechanical and thermal challenges at the box and / or board level.
  • To perform box and board-level mechanical design, at times considering mass, shock and vibration, surface finish, sealing, and electrical & thermal conductivity requirements. 
  • Modelling and analysis of heat transfer characteristics, and thermal radiation for box-level systems. 
  • Experience using industry accepted engineering design and analysis software.
  • Assess interdisciplinary manufacturing process tradeoffs and costs to arrive at the optimal decision.
  • Assign work across the design team in a manner that encourages creative solutions to design challenges across product cost, performance, feature set, time to market, and technical risk.
  • Create Engineering drawings in accordance with accepted industry standards.
  • Track, plan, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of mechanical and thermal product design from initial specifications and R&D, through to design and manufacture.
  • Conceive of innovative methods and procedures for achieving product requirements and specifications using appropriate design, process, manufacturing and mechanical techniques.
  • Mentor, coach, direct and train staff to facilitate higher levels of technical and professional achievement.
Qualifications

High Degree of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required in the following areas:

  • CAD drafting / assembly stacks / solid modeling (SolidWorks Preferred)
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA): ability to effectively set-up complex thermal & structural simulations that converge upon a solution.
  • Finite Element Modal analysis (FEM) and shock, with capability to set up & program verification testing
  • Mechanical concepts, machining, design for manufacture (DFM) and tooling.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and reasoning ability
  • Excellent mathematics skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and concepts to solve problems.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills.

Educational / Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Graduate degree desirable.
  • Seven or more years of experience in mechanical design and analysis in aerospace or related industries.
  • Working knowledge of Military specifications (e.g. MIL-STD-810) and IP (Ingress Protection) ratings as they apply to board and box-level products.
  • Military/Aerospace industry experience a plus.
