The Merchant Acquiring Payments Sales Officer is responsible for managing and expanding a portfolio of business and middle market clients using merchant services. This role involves identifying customer needs, recommending product solutions, and coordinating smooth handoffs to internal teams for onboarding, training, and ongoing support.
 
This position may also involve portfolio management and assisting with policy and pricing reviews to maintain product competitiveness and compliance.
 
 
What You Will Do:
 
 
  • Source and secure new merchant services clients, collaborating closely with commercial banking and client relationship teams.
  • Partner with commercial relationship managers and merchant acquiring teams to address customer inquiries and specialized service requests.
  • Oversee the full sales cycle, including assigning leads, tracking results, and driving continuous improvement in sales processes.
  • Analyze client portfolios to identify opportunities and make strategic product or service recommendations.
  • Prepare pricing proposals, sales presentations, and bid recommendations for prospective clients.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to provide insight on pricing, risk, and product enhancements.
  • Stay informed on regulatory developments and market shifts, incorporating changes into processes and pricing strategies.
  • Model a high standard of customer service and ensure consistent follow-up with clients and internal partners.
  • Meet or exceed assigned sales goals to drive profitability and portfolio growth.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects, preparing data and reports for leadership and audits as needed.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders across functions to support successful implementation and delivery of services.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks or special projects as assigned.
 
What You Bring:
 
  • Minimum of 5 years in sales, support, or business development within financial services.
  • At least 3 years in merchant acquiring or payments sales preferred.
  • Experience in product management within the merchant services industry is a plus.
  • Strong background in sales and marketing, with proven ability to cross-sell merchant and banking products.
  • Deep knowledge of merchant acquiring solutions, customer needs analysis, and proposal development.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding customer service and relationship management abilities, with confidence engaging senior executives and business owners.
  • Strong time management, organization, and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Thorough understanding of compliance regulations and industry policies related to merchant services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and comfortable using banking software platforms.
