Information Systems Security Engineer IILocation: Columbia, MD 21046Employment Type: Full-Time

 

Overview:

Our client, a leader in innovative defense and security solutions, is seeking an Information Systems Security Engineer II (ISSE II) to support critical cybersecurity and system-hardening initiatives. This role is integral to enabling secure solutions by applying systems engineering and security engineering principles across multiple programs. The ISSE II will analyze software composition, identify vulnerabilities, and implement both software and hardware solutions to safeguard mission-critical systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support cybersecurity engineering efforts across active programs.
  • Define system security requirements, functionality, and architecture.
  • Design and implement secure system architectures.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of security solutions against evolving threats.
  • Develop reports, briefings, and provide technical input to customers.
  • Perform system hardening of modern operating systems for mission-specific use.
  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with security-related changes to infrastructures.
  • Support accreditation and re-accreditation of critical systems.
  • Ensure stability, interoperability, scalability, and security of system designs.
  • Collaborate with engineers and developers to validate design compatibility.
  • Conduct technical security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with IA standards.
  • Review and manage Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms).
  • Contribute to security planning, risk analysis, certification, and awareness activities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Assurance, or related field.
  • DoD 8570/8140 compliant certifications required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in IT security, system assessments, and accreditation processes.
  • Hands-on experience with IT audits, vulnerability assessments, and security tools.
  • Strong understanding of trusted system relationships, architectures, and compliance frameworks.
