We have 30 years of experience in supporting immigrant, refugee, and beginning farmers to grow and market their produce. We assists over 350 farmers by providing access to land, farming infrastructure, and technical assistance in agricultural production and marketing so that immigrants and refugees passionate about agriculture and living in New England can grow familiar foods and contribute to community food systems where locally produced cultural crops are available to all.
We are seeking a Program Manager to oversee the coordination and administration of all aspects of ongoing programs including staffing, evaluation, and ensuring implementation of our program activities meets farmers’ needs and goals. Reporting to our Executive Director, you will be responsible for the quality of programming offerings, ensuring that organizational program metrics and goals are achieved, and all grant obligations are satisfied. 
How you will contribute:
Strategy & Operations
  • Create sustainable program models and adapt work plans to reflect necessary changes in programs. Review and refine with the Leadership Team as necessary.
  • Initiate and set program goals that are aligned with the organizational strategy.
  • Maximize program impact and continue to be connected to programming through site visits, working sessions, and observation to ensure quality of program offerings for the farmers we serve.
  • Identify new opportunities for program growth and delivery, including partnerships with external organizations/businesses/agencies; build out program development and planning, working with teammates to shape programming to meet farmer requests and needs while working with Leadership to ensure sustainability of programming.
  • Support in farmer outreach and engagement across different areas; gather insights from farmers and/or staff regarding programs to ensure all operating smoothly.
  • Lead in revising and ensuring timely send-out of monthly FMF Farmer Newsletter, and support program staff to develop communications to farmers as needed.
  • Engage with the public to present our companies work when appropriate.
  • Support in social media efforts, in coordination with key staff.
  • Support in facilitation and development of FMF Farmer Land Committee, including scheduling, developing agendas, and conducting outreach and farmer engagement.
  • Support in farmer engagement with USDA, particularly Farm Service Agency.
  • Support in implementation of evaluation components of programs, and improve methods of program evaluation where needed.
  • Support staff lead in grant reporting to compile funder reports and ensure data is collected and compiled for all grant-identified Outputs.
Staffing & Supervision
  • Collaborate with the Leadership team to evaluate program staffing models to maximize efficiency, and refine as determined by the Executive Director and Leadership.
  • Provide direct supervision and support to Managers of respective programs.
  • Create an innovative and collaborative environment for staff.Conduct performance evaluations and implement any performance correction plans.
  • Identify skill gaps in staffing and carry out strategies for professional development or establish mechanisms to support managers and staff to excel.
  • Support team in problem-solving and brainstorming ways to handle a given project or activity related to their workload.
  • Train staff on any new programs and program training including new evaluation requirements and data collection.
  • Ensure program staff are fully trained and oversee professional development plans in partnership with Finance & HR Director and Leadership Team.
  • Support the implementation of Monday.com as an all staff tool that increases collaboration amongst the team.
  • Approve program staff timesheets and grant allocations and time off requests.
  • Work with respective program teammates to determine areas of growth and improvement, and work with Leadership Team on sustainability initiatives.
 
What you need to bring to the table:
  • A genuine commitment to our mission, vision, and values.Ability to be effective in a dynamic, multicultural/multilingual work environment, and have the passion, patience, curiosity, and drive to problem-solve and strategize with and for the immigrant farmers at Flats Mentor Farm.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence with diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups.
  • Proven experience in program management, meeting facilitation, community engagement, public speaking, outreach and engagement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or 4+ years equivalent work experience.
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative, strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
  • Demonstrated creative and strategic thought processes to craft innovative engagement strategies and address complex challenges.
  • Passion for community building and a genuine interest in understanding diverse perspectives.
