Position: Payroll ManagerThe Payroll Manager oversees and directs payroll processing for approximately 3,300 employees across the East Coast and Texas, including both union and non-union employees. This role ensures compliance with all relevant laws and tax obligations, supervises a payroll team of 6–8, and collaborates with other departments, such as Benefits and Leave Management. The Payroll Manager reports to the Corporate Controller.
How you will contribute
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing, including collecting, calculating, and inputting payroll data.
- Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Administer and maintain payroll systems, ensuring data integrity and implementing system upgrades.
- Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to validate payroll information, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and salary adjustments.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly and accurately.
- Generate payroll reports, including tax filings, benefits deductions, and other regulatory requirements.
- Address employee inquiries related to payroll, providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold data security standards for payroll-related information.
- Stay updated on payroll regulations, tax laws, and industry trends, implementing changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What we need from you

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years managing a payroll department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
- Proficiency in Excel, SAP, and other payroll software.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and sense of urgency.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting and use of standard office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
- Occasional lifting of office documents and materials, up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment
- Predominantly office-based with occasional visits to construction sites and asphalt manufacturing facilities.
