Position: Payroll ManagerThe Payroll Manager oversees and directs payroll processing for approximately 3,300 employees across the East Coast and Texas, including both union and non-union employees. This role ensures compliance with all relevant laws and tax obligations, supervises a payroll team of 6–8, and collaborates with other departments, such as Benefits and Leave Management. The Payroll Manager reports to the Corporate Controller.

How you will contribute 

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing, including collecting, calculating, and inputting payroll data.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Administer and maintain payroll systems, ensuring data integrity and implementing system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to validate payroll information, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and salary adjustments.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly and accurately.
  • Generate payroll reports, including tax filings, benefits deductions, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Address employee inquiries related to payroll, providing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold data security standards for payroll-related information.
  • Stay updated on payroll regulations, tax laws, and industry trends, implementing changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we need from you 

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years managing a payroll department.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
    • Proficiency in Excel, SAP, and other payroll software.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills.
    • High attention to detail and sense of urgency.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and use of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
  • Occasional lifting of office documents and materials, up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Predominantly office-based with occasional visits to construction sites and asphalt manufacturing facilities.
