Position Summary
The General Manager will oversee all aspects of the metal fabrication shop, driving operational excellence, team growth, and implement strategic development. This role requires a balance of hands-on fabrication knowledge with strong leadership and business acumen. The GM will work closely with the Plant Manager to scale the business to 80 employees over a 3-year period while ensuring quality, safety, and profitability standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
• Leadership & Growth
o Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team as the shop expands to 80 employees.
o Develop succession planning and leadership capacity within the team.
o Create a strong company culture focusing on the “One Team” mentality.
• Strategic Oversight
o Oversee all departments including production, operations, quality, and administration.
o Collaborate with Head Office on strategic initiatives, budgets, and business growth plans.
Operational Excellence
o Work closely with the Plant Manager to optimize workflows, production schedules, and shop efficiency.
o Ensure safety, compliance, and quality standards are met and exceeded.
• Hands-On Fabrication Support
o Leverage fabrication expertise to guide technical decision-making and mentor employees.
o Support troubleshooting, complex projects, and training as required.
• Customer & Business Development
o Maintain relationships with key clients and ensure customer satisfaction.
o Contribute to business development opportunities and capacity planning.
Qualifications
• 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in metal fabrication or a related industry.
• Strong background in fabrication processes (welding, machining, forming, assembly).
• Proven success in scaling operations and building teams.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Experience with budgeting, reporting, and performance management.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, safety standards, and quality management systems (asset).
