Location: On-site in the Bronx — work closely with youth and community partners to make a direct difference. (Openings in the Bronx and Queens)

Note: Candidates must have at least 1+ years of experience representing indigent clients in juvenile delinquency or criminal defense proceedings.

About Our Client

Our client is an award-winning nonprofit legal organization that defends youth and families through an interdisciplinary model integrating legal, social work, and community support. Their Youth Defense Practice (YDP) is dedicated to representing young clients facing delinquency or supervision proceedings, with a focus on reducing harm and preventing family separation.

Job Description

  • Represent youth charged in juvenile delinquency and PINS matters in Family Court.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including attorneys, social workers, and investigators.
  • Manage case files, maintain accurate client records, and track youth defense data.
  • Occasionally supervise one or two attorneys, provide feedback, and assist with staff development.
  • Contribute to training new attorneys and facilitating practice group meetings.
  • Participate in outreach and “Know Your Rights” community presentations.
  • Support practice operations and funder deliverables as needed.

Qualifications

  • J.D. and admission to practice law in New York.
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in juvenile or criminal defense.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language preferred.
  • Passion for youth advocacy and social justice.
