Location: On-site in Queens Family Court with occasional appearances in other NYC boroughs — work directly with clients and teams creating lasting community change. (Openings in the Bronx and Queens)

Note: Must have at least 2 years of experience as an attorney and be admitted to practice law in New York.

About Our Client

Our client is a nationally respected legal and policy organization that defends and strengthens families through holistic, interdisciplinary representation. Their Youth Defense Practice (YDP) protects youth at risk of family separation due to incarceration, providing coordinated legal and social work support that reduces harm and fosters stability across NYC.

Job Description

  • Represent youth in juvenile delinquency and adolescent offender (AO/JO) cases in Family Court and Supreme Court Youth Parts.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including attorneys, social workers, investigators, and paralegals.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and data within the organization’s case management system.
  • Participate in outreach and “Know Your Rights” presentations for families and community partners.
  • Contribute to team development and support the continued growth of the Youth Defense Practice.

Qualifications

  • J.D. and active New York State Bar admission.
  • At least 2 years of experience as an attorney.
  • Experience in family and/or criminal court preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language a plus.
