Job Summary:Our client, a leading real estate investment organization with a strong portfolio of commercial properties, is seeking a Senior Property Accountant. The Property Accountant is responsible for overseeing the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of properties, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, lease interpretation, and support to the property management team. This position plays a key role in financial close, variance analysis, and internal controls, and requires strong attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work independently. This role is hybrid in Irvine, CA offering a competitive salary of $90,000 - $105,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare complete financial statement packages, including journal entries, general ledger review, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules
Coordinate month-end close and deliver accurate financials to Property Managers and leadership
Assist with annual property budgets and analyze monthly variances
Prepare CAM reconciliations and interpret complex lease language
Respond to internal financial inquiries and resolve review comments with proper documentation
Support internal and external audit processes, including SOX compliance and audit schedules
Review financials for accuracy and recommend/execute adjusting entries
Approve cash receipts and invoice coding; collaborate with AR/AP teams to resolve issues
Investigate AR exposures and escalate as needed to property management or leadership
Ensure timely payment of debt, real estate taxes, and sales tax where applicable
Participate in the setup and transition of properties, including beginning balances, sales pro-ration, and closing entries
Manage ad-hoc projects and assist with policy compliance and documentation
Prioritize outstanding tasks and manage workload independently
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field (required)
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property or real estate accounting
Solid understanding of GAAP
Yardi experience preferred
Leasing experience a plus
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to read and interpret contracts, manuals, and financial documentation
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
