About the RoleThe Production Shift Team Leader is responsible for managing a shift team within a unionized bio-chemical plant. This leadership position ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operations while driving production performance, quality standards, and employee development in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead shift operations to meet safety, environmental, quality, and production targets.

  • Provide consistent, clear communication across shifts and departments.

  • Supervise and develop hourly production employees through coaching, training, and performance management.

  • Troubleshoot operational issues and coordinate with maintenance to ensure reliability.

  • Support and execute improvement initiatives focused on yield, efficiency, and cost.

  • Maintain GMP compliance and effective process controls.

  • Align production schedules with customer demand to ensure on-time delivery.

  • Conduct shift meetings to share updates, gather feedback, and reinforce expectations.

  • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and labor agreements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Chemistry is required.

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in manufacturing or continuous processing environments.

  • At least 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience, ideally in a unionized setting.

  • Experience in dextrose and/or fructose production is required.

  • Strong operational leadership and team development skills.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Familiarity with GMP, chemical unit operations, and process controls preferred.

  • Experience with project implementation and cross-functional collaboration is a plus.
