Our Award Winning Client, a nationally recognized leader in construction and materials, is seeking a skilled Safety Coordinator to join their Montana-based team. Known for their innovative and employee-centric approach, they operate with a diverse portfolio across multiple industries.
In this role, you will serve as a trusted resource for employees in the field, implementing and leading safety, health, and risk management programs. The position emphasizes a proactive approach to compliance with OSHA/MSHA and DOT/FMCSA regulations, and you'll spend a majority of your time in the field, directly supporting operations and fostering a culture of safety excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine site visits to monitor and enforce safety practices at jobsites, plants, shops, and pits.
- Lead hazard awareness and corrective sessions, ensuring proper risk assessments and site evaluations are conducted.
- Develop and deliver impactful safety trainings, project-specific safety plans, and engaging employee education programs.
- Oversee and administer company safety initiatives, ensuring alignment with current regulations and technological advancements.
- Facilitate incident investigations, analyze occurrences, and recommend strategies to mitigate future risks.
- Collaborate with construction and transportation teams to develop traffic control plans and ensure safe project execution.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all safety-related activities, including incidents, claims, and compliance reports.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies such as OSHA and MSHA, ensuring company-wide adherence to safety standards.
- Support strategic plans for leadership education, safety culture initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
- Procure and manage safety equipment and materials while adhering to budgetary constraints.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:

3–5 years' field-based safety management experience within a heavy-civil construction environment.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver engaging and impactful safety training.
- Strong engagement and influence skills, with an ability to provide professional coaching to diverse teams.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license, authorization to work in the U.S., and ability to pass pre-employment controlled-substance testing.
Preferred Skills and Certifications:
- Safety certifications such as ASP, CHST, OSHA 510/500, Competent Person Trainings, MSHA Blue Card, or related qualifications.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing safety programs for heavy-civil construction, including tasks on highways, trenching, excavation, underground utilities, and site construction. They will excel at identifying risks, developing safety strategies, and providing impactful coaching and feedback to a diverse workforce.
Work Schedule and Travel
- Primarily 8–12 hours per day, 5 days per week.
- Nights, weekends, and longer hours may be required to meet project demands.
- Travel includes local commutes to job sites with up to 10% overnight travel.
