Back to List

Our client, a respected nonprofit serving vulnerable populations across the Pittsburgh region, is seeking a mission-driven, strategic Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of impact and growth. This unique opportunity is ideal for a visionary leader who thrives in both high-level strategy and hands-on execution—and who is passionate about increasing access to healthcare for those who need it most.

Each year, our client organizes a large-scale, two-day free clinic that delivers vital dental, vision, and hearing services to approximately 1,500 patients, mobilizing an equally large volunteer base of clinical and non-clinical professionals. With strong support from the community and plans to expand through additional “mini” clinics in rural areas, this is a pivotal time to step into a newly created Executive Director role and help shape the organization’s future.

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to lead the execution of a multi-year strategic vision.

  • Serve as a dynamic leader for staff, volunteers, and stakeholders—promoting collaboration, innovation, and service excellence.

  • Act as the face of the organization, representing its mission in the media, at events, and in public forums.

Program & Operational Oversight

  • Lead the successful planning and delivery of the annual flagship clinic.

  • Support the potential development and launch of smaller satellite clinics to serve rural areas throughout the year.

  • Ensure operational efficiency through improved policies, data collection, volunteer engagement, and resource management.

Community & Government Partnerships

  • Cultivate strategic relationships with local health systems, federal agencies, and public health leaders.

  • Secure pathways for patients’ follow-up care and work toward continuing education credits for clinical volunteers.

  • Advocate for systemic change that supports expanded healthcare access for underserved populations.

Fundraising, Budgeting & Financial Management

  • Develop and execute a robust fundraising strategy including grants, major gifts, sponsorships, and donor cultivation.

  • Oversee fiscal management in collaboration with the Board, accounting team, and outside advisors.

  • Manage donor acknowledgment, reporting, and compliance for both cash and in-kind contributions.

Board Governance & Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as liaison between the Board of Directors, Advisory Committee, and operational leadership.

  • Provide clear, timely updates and performance reports to support effective governance.

  • Ensure the organization remains compliant with nonprofit laws, ethical standards, and audit requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit leadership, public health, business administration, or related field required; Master’s preferred.

  • Experience: 5–7+ years in executive or senior-level nonprofit leadership, ideally in healthcare or community services.

  • Fundraising Acumen: Demonstrated success in donor relations, grant writing, and revenue diversification.

  • Financial Competence: Strong budgeting, reporting, and fiscal accountability.

  • Relationship Building: Skilled communicator who can effectively engage community leaders, clinical professionals, sponsors, and volunteers.

  • Mission Commitment: Deep belief in equitable access to healthcare and a strong track record of leading with compassion and integrity.

  • Plus: Experience working with federal agencies, public health programs, or healthcare disparity initiatives.
