Discover Support –

• Assess existing client VMWare landscape
• Assist with defining technical steps and estimated durations for a migration to an XCP-ng environment
• Make recommendations / sizing determination for any hardware changes.
• Identify any areas where “rearchitected solutions” may be necessary, points of risk
• Advise on outage – if any – that may be experienced.

Execution Support –

• Facilitate the migration from VMWare to XCP-ng
• Moving over the VMs, converting them, and redeploying into use
• Testing of the outcomes
• Day 1 support of the new environment.

Skills –

VMWare administration (vCenter, vMotion, etc)

XCP-ng / XEN hypervisor skillsets

Networking knowledge – (routing, switching, vLAN, etc)

Potentially some storage skillsets (dell, pure, hpe, etc)

Good documentation skills

Good communication skills

The clients we are talking to are all over the place as it relates to size.  Some have smallish – 4-6 host clusters – environments and others are much, much larger.

The two identified support areas need not necessarily be the same person – and there’s likely to be some lag between discovery and planning versus the actual execution.
