INTERNATIONAL TRADE ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
EXPORT CONTROLS FOCUS

Our client, an international Amlaw 50 firm with a leading International Trade Practice, is seeking a junior-level Associate Attorney to join their team. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full spectrum of international trade matters, including U.S. export controls, economic sanctions, trade remedies, trade policy, and customs/import controls. The position provides meaningful responsibility advising clients on high-stakes regulatory and compliance matters impacting global trade.
Candidate Profile

JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record
- Member of the Class of 2023 or 2024

Active Bar Admission in the District of Columbia, in good standing

1–2 years of substantive experience in international trade law, including U.S. export controls, sanctions, trade remedies, trade policy, or customs and import controls

Private sector and/or government experience with international trade control laws strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and related compliance and enforcement regimes
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide precise and practical guidance to clients
- Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, client service, and professional excellence

Key Responsibilities
- Support clients on a wide range of international trade matters, including export controls, sanctions, customs, and trade remedies

Advise on the laws and regulations governing the export and re-export of goods and technology from the US

Conduct internal compliance audits and investigations to identify potential violations of export controls and sanctions programs

Assess liabilities and develop mitigating and remedial strategies in response to compliance issues
- Assist with export classification, licensing applications, and engagement with regulatory authorities
- Collaborate with senior attorneys and practice leaders on complex cross-border compliance and enforcement matters

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $225,000+ annually, as determined by experience and market factors
