Our client, a leading unionized food manufacturer, is currently in search of a highly skilled Maintenance Supervisor to join their team in North Mississauga, ON.

 

The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the installation, repair, and maintenance of machinery, coordinating with technicians and maintenance staff. They will ensure maintenance operations run smoothly, provide technical support to department directors and Maintenance Managers, and ensure safety and maintenance standards are followed.

Maintenance Supervisor Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule day-to-day activities of maintenance employees (Level 1 to Level 5, Stationary Engineers Class 2 & 4).
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to maintenance technicians and operators.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, refrigeration, and electrical issues in critical plant equipment (e.g., boilers, refrigeration units, rendering machinery).
  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems.
  • Evaluate and improve organizational maintenance processes for better efficiency and support of growth.
  • Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance (PM) program for continuous improvement of machine performance.
  • Adhere to and enforce safety policies, regulations, and compliance standards (OHSA, WHMIS).
  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with food safety standards (CFIA, GMP, HACCP, BRC).
  • Supervise and mentor maintenance team, ensuring safety and best practices are followed.
  • Train employees on safe equipment operation and maintenance tasks.
  • Manage performance and provide corrective actions (discipline) as needed, including termination, according to company policies and collective agreement.
  • Maintain an inventory of repair equipment and supplies to ensure all necessary materials are available.
  • Ensure accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports, ensuring accessibility for audits and inspections.
  • Ensure safety devices are functioning properly after repairs, modifications, and installations.
  • Address internal and external complaints related to equipment performance and resolve issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with production teams to address equipment issues and minimize production disruptions.
  • Provide corrective actions (discipline) as required, including termination, following company policies and the collective agreement.

 

 Maintenance Supervisor Qualifications

 

         5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a food manufacturing environment and meat processing.

         Proven experience with refrigeration systems (B Ticket), boilers, and other industry-specific machinery such as rendering equipment, pumps, and conveyors.

         Refrigeration B Ticket required.

         Ontario Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (433A) Certificate is an asset.

         Tow Motor License is preferred.

         Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read schematics and repair meat processing and rendering equipment.

         Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems, with experience in high-demand production environments.

         Skilled in pneumatic, hydraulic, and power transmission systems.

         Knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting is a plus.

         Ability to perform electrical repairs on critical plant systems.

         Familiarity with CFIA, GMP, HACCP, and food safety regulations.

         Knowledge of OHSA and WHMIS for safe work practices.

         Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on minimizing downtime and ensuring operational efficiency.

         Excellent communication skills for effective cross-department collaboration.

         Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
