Ascension Search Partners has been engaged by a private equity backed, middle market services company who are growing their accounting team.

The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in overseeing all aspects of financial reporting for the company. This individual will ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements and reports, while also maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial reporting and experience working in a private equity-backed environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant financial reporting standards.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls and processes to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports/review decks to the private equity firm and other stakeholders.
  • Provide insightful financial reports to support strategic decision-making and operational performance.
  • Prepare quarterly Audit Committee presentation and assists and Board of Directors presentations.
  • Responsible for technical accounting guidance when necessary; assists implementation of new accounting guidance such as ASC 842.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including FP&A, tax, and treasury, to support financial planning and analysis activities.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in financial reporting and compliance.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing financial reporting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in financial reporting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience working in a private equity-backed environment required.
  • Proven track record of managing the financial reporting process, including preparing and reviewing financial statements and managing audits.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentoring and developing team members.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting software and ERP systems including Oracle and Excel
