Position Overview

The Manager, Application Development will lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise applications that enhance core banking operations and optimize digital solutions. This role involves managing vendor-packaged and custom-built applications while ensuring seamless integration with financial institution technologies. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a strategic mindset for driving technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of core banking applications, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead a team of application developers, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable enterprise solutions.
  • Implement best practices for software development methodologies, version control, and testing strategies.
  • Influence executive leadership by providing strategic insights on technology roadmaps and innovation initiatives.
  • Develop and enforce coding standards, governance policies, and compliance measures to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Manage vendor relationships and stay informed on emerging technologies, software updates, and industry trends.
  • Oversee agile and iterative project management methodologies, ensuring project milestones are met efficiently.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by soliciting user feedback, analyzing performance metrics, and identifying enhancement opportunities.
  • Support the core banking platform (Symitar) and other enterprise applications by leading integration and customization efforts.

Candidate Requirements

Must-Haves

  • Six (6) years of experience with financial institution technologies, including but not limited to Jack Henry (Symitar, Synapsys, Synergy, SymXchange, ARCU), MeridianLink, Encompass, Alkami, COTS, Image Center, and OpCon.
  • Proven expertise in software development methodologies, version control, and quality assurance practices.
  • Strong background in leadership, coaching, mentoring, and motivating teams for successful project delivery.
  • Ability to influence executive leadership and drive technology initiatives.
  • Understanding of agile project management principles and iterative software development practices.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in developing, integrating, and supporting core banking applications (Symitar/PowerOn/RepGen).
  • Knowledge of IBM AIX operating systems.
  • Experience with SQL development, HTML, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with the ITIL framework and experience implementing standardized engineering processes.
