The Quality Assurance Manager oversees the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of a Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001 standards. This role involves reporting on the performance of the Quality team to drive continuous system improvements, developing and leading quality strategies, and spearheading initiatives to enhance quality in both design and operations. Reporting directly to the Managing Director of the Center of Excellence, with dotted-line accountability to the Chief Regional Officer, the manager ensures effective checks and balances are maintained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze and present information on business conditions, production capabilities, quality concerns, and market trends to management.
- Propose and debate methods for quality improvement, problem-solving, process enhancements, and adapting to market changes.
- Act as the ISO 9001 Management Representative and contribute to the Quality Improvement Team (QIT) Steering Team to implement Zero Defects principles and the Quality Improvement Process (QIP).
- Develop, analyze, and maintain quality standards, product specifications, and statistical data for reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with top management to establish policies, procedures, and quality performance goals; report monthly KPIs.
- Revise and coordinate product assurance programs, updating work instructions and operational procedures annually.
- Lead inspections, testing, and cross-departmental efforts to optimize production reliability and minimize costs.
- Conduct management meetings to establish objectives, align operations, and resolve technical issues.
- Ensure completion of the annual Customer Satisfaction Survey and update quality/EHS materials with vision, mission, and metrics.
- Evaluate vendor performance, drive quality improvement plans, and implement APQP/PPAP processes for key vendors.
- Collaborate with engineers to deploy advanced quality tools and avoid design-phase failures.
- Organize training for quality systems, methods, and tools while coaching team members in their application.
- Address customer complaints using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 8D, QRQC) and oversee management reviews.
- Partner with Procurement to manage vendor ratings, identify risks, and address Supplier Corrective Actions (SCARs).
- Manage internal audits, ensuring timely closure of Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
- Lead customer audits, ensuring compliance with contracted requirements, and resolve Net Promoter Score (NPS) trends.
- Maintain 3rd party product certifications and manage inspections with certification bodies (e.g., UL, CSA, ETL).
- Uphold quality and EHS policies and core values of teamwork and value-adding contributions.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Directly oversee Quality Assurance staff, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and addressing workplace issues per organizational policies and laws.
Qualifications:
- Applicable B.A. or B.S. from a four-year college or university (or equivalent experience); or 2-year associate degree from an applicable technical school; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8-10 years of comprehensive experience in the manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years prior experience in a management role, in quality management, quality assurance, and production processing/assembly.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining quality management systems.
- Exposure in establishing quality strategies and leading quality improvement plans.
- Practical experience in coaching and use of problem-solving methods (QRQC, 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why’s, 6 Sigma).
- Practical knowledge and experience of APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP, supplier quality management and development.
- Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products.
- ASQ CQE – Certified Quality Engineer or the ability to obtain within 24 months of being hired
- Certified Quality Auditor (quality management system, product & process) or the ability to obtain within 12 months of being hired.
