The Assistant Controller provides direct accounting support and plays a dual role as both a team leader and individual contributor. This experienced professional is responsible for general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, accounts receivable, invoicing, financial controls, audits, and special projects. Additionally, this position helps establish accounting policies, designs and implements automation of accounting processes, improves procedures and internal controls, and oversees accounting functions across all locations.
The ideal candidate will apply strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical skills to lead a scalable, efficient accounting team. This individual will be a proven leader in accounting operations, with a confident presence, collaborative style, and excellent management abilities—capable of providing clear direction while also contributing independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:• Direct a timely and accurate month-end close process for consolidated financial reporting• Ensure journal entries are correctly recorded at the entity, department, and account levels• Maintain ownership of the balance sheet through detailed review of account reconciliations and analyses• Evaluate, develop, and implement accounting policies and procedures in response to changes in regulations and GAAP• Continuously improve and automate month-end close processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency• Coordinate with IT to ensure the integrity of financial and accounting systems• Plan and participate in annual physical inventories at all locations• Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process• Work with cross-functional managers to enhance internal controls and operational policies• Supervise and develop direct reports by establishing and reviewing performance goals• Provide leadership and mentorship to strengthen skills across the team• Perform other duties as assigned
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred• Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience• Strong understanding of company operations and financial drivers• Experience with consolidated reporting across multiple entities• Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when reviewing financial analyses• Ability to identify and address technical accounting, process, and system-related issues with both tactical and strategic approaches• Adaptability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment• Proven ability to lead, coach, and build high-performing teams• Strong interpersonal and executive communication skills• Willingness to address challenging topics and present to diverse audiences• Self-motivated, innovative, and able to lead change• High personal and professional integrity and standards• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with enterprise financial systems• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities• Lead the ongoing development of the accounting department
