The Quality Technician plays a key role in ensuring product and process quality for plastic components ranging in size from bottle caps to shoeboxes. This hands-on position combines quality assurance, documentation, and production support to maintain high standards and meet customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities (Including but Not Limited To):
Product Quality:
Inspect parts using precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers
Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work instructions
Perform quality inspections on finished products, including random sampling of current and past production runs
Conduct and document quality processes including PPAPs, sample inspections, and part release approvals
Identify, isolate, and investigate non-conforming products and defects
Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is complete and compliant
Calibrate equipment as needed and verify gauges are accurate
Communicate with customers regarding quality concerns or approvals
Process Quality:
Monitor production processes and documentation to ensure compliance with standards
Train production staff on quality control procedures and expectations
Develop and follow inspection plans and test methods
Track parts throughout the manufacturing process to ensure conformance at all stages
Identify root causes for quality issues and support process improvement
Production Support:
Operate injection molding machines and perform secondary operations such as trimming and packaging
Provide operator relief for presses and help meet daily production deadlines
Support general production duties when quality tasks are complete
Documentation & Organization:
Review and prepare job books, work orders, and inspection sheets
Ensure all documents are current and properly filed, including packaging specs, press settings, and setup USBs
Analyze submitted paperwork for completeness and accuracy, investigating discrepancies as needed
Manage inventory for job setups and verify revisions match customer requirements
Scrap or isolate outdated inventory per customer approval
Daily Routine:
Perform first-thing quality checks on all running presses and recently produced parts
Review press documentation for accuracy and address issues with appropriate personnel
Submit completed and verified work orders to the Office Manager
Assist in production operations as time allows
Qualifications:
Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measurement tools
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with quality systems and documentation, including PPAPs
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (ability to run formulas and organize data for tracking)
Ability to switch between quality and production responsibilities as needed
Experience in plastic manufacturing or similar environment preferred
