You’ll work cross-functionally with Sales, Production, and Engineering, using AutoCAD 2D, Inventor 3D, and other tools to design, refine, and document full build packages. This role is ideal for a creative engineering mind—someone who enjoys solving design problems, thinking beyond standard models, and ensuring product feasibility through hands-on collaboration and sound engineering principles.
Duties: Including but not limited to:
- Create 2D and 3D layouts, assemblies, and detailed drawings for manufacturing custom trailers.
- Apply core engineering principles (statics, dynamics, stress analysis, etc.) to solve real-world design problems.
- Lead and participate in design review meetings with production and interior teams.
- Manage multiple active trailer design projects through various stages of development.
- Interpret customer requirements, develop sales drawings, and convert concepts into manufacturable documentation.
- Ensure design intent is clearly communicated to production and purchasing teams.
- Support Engineering Change documentation and maintain BOMs for both custom and standard builds.
- Assist in sourcing specialty components with the Purchasing team.
- Propose and support continuous improvement initiatives using tools like FEA and Excel-based models.
- Work approximately 20% of the time in a non-climate-controlled shop/production environment to ensure fit and functionality of designs.
Skills and Qualifications:
- This is a specialty design role, ideal for someone who enjoys a fast-paced, varied, and highly customized work environment.
- The company is committed to continuous improvement and values creative thinkers with a passion for engineering beyond just CAD modeling.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- 2+ years of relevant design experience preferred (strong internship experience may be considered for high-potential candidates).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and Inventor 3D software (required).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and custom fabrication.
- High level of comfort with Microsoft Office suite and MRP systems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to coordinate with Sales, Production, and vendors.
- Demonstrated creativity in design work with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset.
- Experience working on custom or one-off projects strongly preferred.
- Willingness to engage in multi-disciplinary challenges involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other systems.
